VIAJE A NEW YORK 2014 / OUR TRIP TO NEW YORK 2014

Tras los meses de relax veraniegos y la vuelta a la rutina me apetecía muchísimo compartir con vosotros mi viaje a Nueva York. Esta es una entrada muy difícil de escribir, ya que tenía montones de fotos y cada momento pasado en la Gran Manzana ha sido especial, y resumirlo en un post es muy complicado.

Summer is almost over and we are back to our routine. I really wanted to share with you all my trip to New York. This hasn´t been an easy post to write, because I had lots of pictures and stories that I wanted to tell you, and every moment I´ve spent there was so special that sum it up in just this post was really hard.

Espero traeros un trocito de Manhattan en este post. Es sin duda una experiencia única, un sueño cumplido que intentaremos volver a repetir. Viajar engancha y Nueva York es una ciudad que te atrapa y hace que quieras regresar lo más pronto posible. El simple hecho de pasear por las avenidas de Manhattan ya hace que te sientas parte de la ciudad, unos minutos bastan para sentir el encanto que desprende y es inevitable pensar en la cantidad de escenas que te vienen a la mente de una ciudad en la que no has estado nunca antes pero en la que todo te resulta familiar.

I hope this post brings you a little piece of Manhattan. There is no doubt that going to New York is a unique experience, it´s a dream come true that we are willing to repeat again and again. Traveling is addictive an New York catches you from the very first moment you set foot in the city. Walking down the enormous avenues makes you feel part of it. Just a few minutes are enough to notice the charm emerging from this city. It´s really curious how, despite you have never been ther before, everything looks familiar to you.

En nuestro primer contacto con la ciudad, con nuestro correspondiente jetlag, estábamos hambrientos. Tras dejar el equipaje en nuestro hotel con una situación inmejorable, justo a la espalda de Times Square, decidimos investigar los alrededores. Una de las primeras cosas que encontramos fue un local especializado en bagels de todo tipo con una amplia variedad de rellenos, lo que hacía muy difícil nuestra elección, haciendo honor a su nombre "Pick a Bagel" (elige un bagel).

Once we arrived, we left our luggage at the hotel and realized how starving and jet-lagged we were. Fortunately, we stayed in a very well located hotel, next to Times Square, so we decided to go out for a walk and have something to eat. The first place we found was all bagel related. It has a really wide range of bagels and fillings, and it´s called "Pick a Bagel". I have to say that pick just one is really hard work. They were amazing.

Aquí una muestra de algunos de los desayunos que tomamos los diferentes días. Uno de los sitios que resultó nuestro favorito fue Junior´s, por su amplia carta de desayunos, brunch, y unas tartas de queso espectaculares y muy afamadas. Tengo que decir que estaba tan buena que no me dio tiempo a inmortalizarla, I´m sorry jajajaja 

Those are some of the different kinds of breakfast we had during our stay. Junior´s ended up being our favourite. You can have breakfast or brunch, and their cheesecakes are awesome and very famous. We ordered some pieces of cheesecake, but I have to say that they were so yummy that I forgot to take a picture of them. ( Junior's website )

Nada más que los escaparates de las bakeries y las tiendas especializadas en diferentes productos gastronómicos son un espectáculo, invitan a entrar y probarlo todo.

The counters at the bakeries and the different gourmet shops that you can find are really impressive. You want to try everything.

Como es normal, ir a Nueva York y no probar alguna "guarrindongada" es como no haber estado allí. Uno de los mejores sitios para hacerlo es el Dallas BBQ, un local inmenso, un servicio extra rápido y unas raciones tan abundantes que daban miedo. Nos decidimos por los típicos cocktails con botellita dentro y probeta incluida con un licor desconocido, que entran como el agua y suben rápidamente a la cabeza, deberían venir con una advertencia en grande. Yo pedí una "Bacon Cheese Crispy Onion Burger", que fui incapaz de terminarme y mi marido pidió una "Sirloin Steak Burger", todo muy americano como podéis ver.

Obviously, we wanted to try some "junk food" (no offense). One of the best places for it is The Dallas BBQ, a huge establishment with a very quick customer service and where the servings are enormous too. We had the typical cocktails with a little upsidedown bottle inside. They were quite strong, they should come with a big warning LOL. I ordered a really tasty Bacon Cheese Crispy Onion Burguer,  but I couldn´t  barely finish it. And my husband had the Sirloin Steak Burguer, and he made a good profit of it LOL.

Al día siguiente, decidimos probar en un restaurante mexicano. En Nueva York todo es siempre a lo grande, por lo que dificilmente puedes terminar toda la comida que pides. Todo lo que probamos estaba delicioso y a muy buen precio.

Next day, we decided to have some Mexican food. Everything in New York is big, and so are the servings at most of the restaurants and you can´t barely finish what you order. The food was delicious and not pricey at all.
 

La mañana del domingo salimos a pasear por Central Park y después de toparnos con el Gran Desfile Nacional Puertorriqueño de Nueva York que tiene lugar todos los años, decidimos hacer una parada en uno de los sitios más emblemáticos de la ciudad, el Rockefeller Center y tomar algo en su terraza. Esto que veis en la foto es a lo que ellos llaman sangría, el guacamole y los nachos, realmente caseros, estaban increíbles. Nos sorprendió que en un sitio como ese todo fuera elaborado por ellos en el momento, lejos de los productos artificiales usados en otros tipo de establecimientos típicamente neoyorkinos. Aprovechando la situación subimos a disfrutar de las espectaculares vistas del Top of the Rock.

Sunday morning we went for a walk in Central Park. We spent a while watching the National Puerto Rican Day Parade. We had lunch at one of the most emblematic places of the city, The Rockefeller Center. At the picture you can see what we had, sangria and a really good guacamole with handmade nachos. They were amazing, we were very surprised that everything was really fresh. After lunch, we enjoyed of a bit of sightseeing at the Top of The Rock, it was such a blast!!

Decidimos disfrutar la tarde y pasear hasta Grand Central donde encontramos uno de los mercados mas conocidos de Nueva York que ofrecía infinidad de productos gourmet de todo tipo. En el vídeo podréis deleitaros con algunos de los puestos que lo componen.

After that, we went to Grand Central Terminal and dug into one of the most famous malls, The Grand Central Market. We found a wide range of gourmet products, as you can see in next video.

    

Y como ir a Nueva York y no comer pizza!! Os dejo unas fotos de la mejor que probamos, la de John´s pizza, que se disputa el título de la mejor pizza de la ciudad con Grimaldi´s.

You can´t go to New York and not have some kind of pizza, right? You can see some pictures below of one of the best pizza we have ever tried, John´s pizza. This one competes for the Best Pizza of the  City tittle with Grimaldi´s one.

Otra de las paradas obligadas es comerse un hot dog, debo decir que me sorprendió muy gratamente, no esperaba para nada que estuviera tan bueno, no se si era por marco en el que me encontraba pero recordaré ese hot dog toda mi vida. También pudimos disfrutar de las hamburguesas más de moda  del momento en Nueva York, las del Shake Shack, pero por desgracia no tengo fotos. Os recomiendo probarlas sin dudarlo, merecen la pena.

Another thing you have to do once you are in New York is to have a good hot dog. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised, I hadn´t ever imagined that such a tiny thing could taste as good. It was the best hot dog I have ever tried, I won´t foget that moment. We could also enjoy of one of the coolest hamburguer places of the moment, the Shake Shack ( Shake Shack website ). Unfortunately I don´t have any pictures. I totally recommend to try them, they are really worth it. 

Mi lista de sitios de visita obligada era bastante larga, pero por desgracia, el tiempo es limitado y Nueva York es muy grande para una sola visita. Por suerte, pude ir a dos de ellos. Uno fue el Craftbar del chef Tom Colicchio, afamado chef americano y al que podemos ver en el jurado del Top Chef USA.

I had a long list of  "must go places", but unfortunately we didn´t have time enough to visit all of them. We made it to the famous Chef Tom Colicchio´s Craftbar ( craftbar website ), who has been the head judge on every season of Tv show Top Chef.

El segundo, fue el Esca, restaurante italiano especializado en pescado y marisco fresco del conocido empresario, restaurador y bodeguero estadounidense Joe Bastianich, al que también podemos ver como jurado de Masterchef USA y Masterchef Italia. El servicio fue exquisito, la atención fue impecable y muy personalizado y la comida... ¡qué decir de la comida! producto fresco al máximo, cuidado y respeto por el producto al cien por cien y elaborado sabiendo sacar el máximo sabor de él.

The other one was Esca ( Esca website ), an Italian resturant specialized in fresh seafood and fish, owned by the American restaurateur Joe Bastianich, seen in the cast of Masterchef USA and Masterchef Italy. Exquisite service, impeccable customer attention, and the food... oh my! no words. You find rigorous care and respect for an extremely fresh product which is elaborated to obtain the maximum flavor of it.

¿Os apetece un poquito de dulce? A mi sí, y cuando iba paseando por el Soho y vi Ladurée no me pude resistir a degustar sus exquisitos macarons y alguno de sus magníficos productos de alta pastelería.

Would you like something sweet? I was really in the mood for something sweet while I was walking by Soho, so when I suddenly saw Ladurée I couldn´t resist trying their delightful macarons and some other products of their wide range of haute patisserie.

Estuvimos en las tiendas oficiales de Hershey´s y M&m's, ¡inmensas!...algo vino para España jajajajaja

We visited M&m´s and Hersheys´s official shops, huge places!!... and something came to Spain with us...LOL

Algunas fotos de locales míticos como Carmine´s, Sardi´s, etc. que se encuentran en la zona de los teatros, muy frecuentados por las celebrities.

We passed by some mythical places very frequented by the celebrities, like Carmine´s, Sardi´s, etc.

Otra de las cosa que no podía venirme sin probar era un auténtico donut americano, así que tras levantarme di un paseíto hasta la 6th avenue con la 45th street, (me encanta como nombran las calles en Nueva York) para comerme el mejor donut que haya probado en mi vida, hasta la fecha, con el típico café para llevar como toda una New Yorker, totalmente integrada yo con el entorno jajajajaja

I couldn´t leave New York without having a gorgeous doughnut. So last day there, after getting ready, I had a little walk to the 6th avenue & 45th street, (I love how they say the addresses at The Big Apple) to eat the best doughnut I had ever tried in my whole life, until now at least, with a take away coffee as a former New Yorker LOL

Tal y como vemos en las películas y series americanas podemos encontrar carritos de comida por todos los rincones de la ciudad, unos más de fiar que otros, lo que invita a comer constantemente por la calle, algo que ellos tienen tan arraigado en su estilo de vida.

As we see at American movies and TV shows, you can find foodtrucks everywhere, some of them more reliable than others. So you constantly feel the urge to try everything, and eat at the street all the time, something really typical of the American culture.

Espero que no os haya resultado muy pesado todo lo que os he contado porque a mi se me ha quedado corto, podría estar días y días contando anécdotas del viaje pero no es plan jajajajaja Si tenéis la oportunidad de ir no la dejéis pasar, yo recomiendo una estancia de mínimo seis días, por lo menos para poder visitar lo más significativo de la ciudad. Aunque siempre se nos va a hacer corto, porque es una ciudad que puedes visitar montones de veces que siempre tendrá cosas nuevas que descubrir.

Hope you have enjoyed reading this post, I know it´s a long one, sorry about that. But who can go to New York and sum it up in a couple of lines, am I right? If you have the chance to go to New York just take it, you won´t ever regret it. I recommend a minimum stay of 6 days, at least, to see the most significant places of the city. Although, you can visit New York a hundred times that you will always find a fresh, changing and totally amazing city. Everytime will be your first time!
